its not over. show me another project that combines .eth/.sol with censorship resistant and scalable social media. all plebbit needs is good marketing. posting with a crypto domain is nearly instant for me on windows, using the downloadable instance with a crypto domain.

So will there be other types of identities? Most people won't ever want to buy an eth/sol domain. If you force people to do that, this will be doomed. More than it is already.

I thought this as well. Also, anon posting, no login, is one reason of the success of, well, anon boards. There is a precedent regarding decentralized boards and failure due to difficulty to post. Problem is, nobody wanted to buy polygon in order to post. Because it's a hassle for the average shitposter. So soon the developer was the only one posting. Plebbit developers say they are working on a challenge based identity. You solve a certain amount of captchas, and then you have an identity with which you can post. Back to the .eth domain, not all people interested in decentralization are into crypto. And among those that are in crypto, some are Bitcoin maxis, who won't buy .eth domains anyway.

Spammers ruin it for everyone.
