Refreshing to see someone discovering plebbit and not instantly hating it for some stupid reason. It really gets on my nerves how ignorant some people are. Maybe I should stop using Reddit.
Welcome to Plebbit. IPFS is pretty cool, the only problem we had with it was that their DHT was using like 6 terabytes of bandwidth per month to run a node and killing some routers’ internet, which has been a known issue for a long time. But we fixed these problems by implementing a trackers design for peer discovery, similar to BitTorrent trackers, so we could ditch the IPFS DHT completely. Now, running a Plebbit node (i.e., plebbit-cli or our desktop app, which run a custom IPFS node) consumes 100x less bandwidth than before, ~30-60GB per month, which is less than most people's monthly YouTube consumption.
